This recently disgorged 1995 was just shipped direct from the chalk cellars of Le Brun de Neuville after 22 years of ageing on the lees! It is composed of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir. This is an extraordinary value in fully mature Champagne. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

    Because of the incredibly long aging on the lies (22 years), this is much more vinous than your average champagne. And my god, this is a fabulous wine! I would want to pair this with something more robust like foie-gras, paté, or a mushroom based dish than with oysters or seafood because of the intense flavor this brings in the glass. The color is a marvelous gold tinged with copper and foreshadows a complex palate. But it doesn’t just foreshadow, it delivers! One could spend a long time trying to pick out particular notes from the large swath of flavors that explode on the palate. I was able to pick out notes of golden raisins, apricot, baked apple, and slightly toasted almonds. There’s also a lot of complexity to the texture! I would describe it as a honey-like viscosity with a slightly gripy chalk quality.

    After 22 years of patient sur-lee ageing, the folks at Le Brun de Neuville have released this fabulous RD. Most long aged, late disgorged Champagne sells for triple the cost of this 1995, but since we work directly with Le Brun de Neuville, we are able to offer this rarity at a very fair price. If you like a rich, toasted brioche style with chanterelle complexity, this is going to be right in your wheelhouse. I love this kind of Champagne paired with paté as it still has the cut, and compliments other complex flavors. Needless to say, after all this time, the bead is compact and lovely!

    This is aged Sezanne Champagne at its finest! Rich notes of dried lemons and apricots, oloroso sherry notes, hazelnuts, smoke and beautiful earthy minerals all combine perfectly integrated under the bright acidity of the vintage for an incredibly rare experience for an incredibly rare low price.

    Older vintage Champagne kind of reminds me of my dad: just like my dad, the older a Champagne gets the weirder it gets, and I like it more and more for that reason. This amazing '95 from Le Brun spent a massive 22 years on lees and is composed of 95% Chardonnay with 5% Pinot Noir. This. Champ. Is. Funky! But don't let the funk scare you cuz it just might help you Free Yourself like the 1977 album by Experience Unlimited. This sparkler has Sherry-like scents and flavors of oxidation. Pair that with notes that are saline, savory, and throwing down dried fruits and now you have yourself a really groovy tune. The palate is nutty and dripping with dark honey. It's rich, but there's still a youthful acidity that keeps things surprisingly fresh. This wine is amazingly complex and deserves many a thoughtful sip.

    This champagne certainly shows its age in a great way. The aging provided a richness with honeysuckle notes, nutty, and finishing with brightness and great acidity. It's not surprising how many layers this champagne shows because of the age, but what's surprising is how fresh it still is even after 24 years. This is the one to pair with food (cheese, pate or something savory) and definitely one to sit and think about with each sip.

    Woof. This a hilariously rich, honey-laden bomb of a wine is as good as it gets in my opinion for two-decade-old champagne you don't have to take a mortgage out to drink. Plum and mushroom wrapped around a candied orange in the middle and back of the palette combine to a complex drink that is begging for a rich partner.

    Drinking aged Champagne is a different experience than young ones. We describe them differently. They are more akin to an older white Bourgogne, like honey, waxy textures, mushrooms and earthy tones. It requires more thought or attention to appreciate the layers of complexity they have to offer. Most champagnes of this age cost much more than the $99.99. If this is the style you are in to, don't miss out!

    This is an older Champagne that has all of the influence of age but is also fresh and lively. There are notes of nuts but these flavors do not dominate and this Champagne is not tired or flabby. It has a bright and refreshing finish that make this an excellent aged Champagne.

    Aged for a whopping 22 years on the lees, this champagne could buy its own champagne (in the U.S.). This is such a fun and expressive wine that's on a totally different level. Umami notes and buttered chanterelles and umeshu plum bombard the nose and are almost perfectly mirrored on the palate. This is definitely a bottle you want to have with rich, fatty, umami laden foods.

    What a treat this wine is! 22 years on lees has truly done something wonderful here. The wine shows a deep honied color and complex earthy aromas of mushrooms, beeswax. On the palate it has a salty nuttiness that fills the mouth. The taste is intense and complex. Indeed, this is not a wine that I would pour for a cocktail hour, but perhaps served with a savory course centered around wild mushrooms or foie gras.

    It's not often that you see a bottle this age laying around, and definitely not at the $100 range. After spending 22 years (yes years) on the lees what we have here is a delicious round and toasty bottle even though it hasn't seen any oak. The nose is of brown sugar and brown butter, almost reminiscent of cookie dough with a soft nuttiness. The palate has lovely notes of baking spice and graham cracker. This majority chardonnay wine is another winner from the co-op!
