Saturated, bright-rimmed ruby. Lush, expansive dark berry, licorice and floral scents are enlivened by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. Broad and sweet on the palate, offering intense blackberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Rich, for sure, but there's unlikely energy here as well. The supple, dark-fruit-driven finish shows excellent clarity. Pliant, slow-building tannins add framework and grip. (JR)
Bright aromas of blueberry meet with earthy aromas and a tannic tension on the nose of this bottling, which comes from a vineyard deep in the southeastern corner of Paso Robles. A firm structure carries plummy flavors on the palate, which is relatively light on its feet, approachable and easy to like. (MK)
The 2016 Aglianico is more supple and charming than the 2015, offering lots of dried cherry and leafy herb aromas, medium body, terrific overall balanced, and a clean, lengthy finish. You don’t see the variety in California often, but this is a good one that’s well worth your time and money.
