Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga (a barrel sample) gives up notions of cassis, black plums and pencil lead with hints of cedar chest, tobacco, bay leaves and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and firmly textured with ripe, fine-grained tannins, the palate features a wonderfully understated, earth-laced depth, finishing on a minerally note. (LPB)
