A bright, simple, quite tangy and light array of wild red fruit. Wild herbs, too. The palate arrives in a sleeve of fine, crunchy tannins. Bright, drink-now style.
Delas has done a good job with their Ventoux over the years, and the 2017 Ventoux is perhaps their best yet. It offers hints of concrete dust or crushed stone layered over subtle cherry aromas. The unoaked 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah is medium-bodied, with a velvety feel and dried spices and Bing cherries on the silky finish. At the suggested retail of $11, it's a screaming bargain. Fresh and silky in feel, with pretty anise and tea hints inlaid into a core of gently steeped red currant and plum fruit. The fine-grained structure lets the finish linger prettily. Drink now through 2020. (JM)
