The 2016 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru contains 100% whole cluster and is matured in one-third new oak. It has a really beautiful bouquet that you could easily mistake for Christophe Roumier’s: blackberry, blueberry, a hint of crushed violet and fine mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of fine-grain tannin, the new oak perfectly sutured into the black and blue fruit with superb delineation and focus towards the silky smooth finish. This is one of the best 2016s Bonnes-Mares that I have tasted, if not the best. (NM)
Silky and smoky, this perfumed red features black cherry, wild berry, sandalwood, licorice and stone flavors. Balanced, yet firm enough to develop over the next few decades. Offers a lingering, juicy finish. (BS)
95-98 points Jasper Morris for Inside Burgundy: "Rich deep purple, 100% whole bunch, one third new oak. This has a very complex nose worth delving into, darker fruit, even some blackberry. Gorgeous full mouthful, oak at the back then fruit once more, with a nice touch of acidity. The whole bunch effect sits seamlessly within the fruit. More red fruit at the finish, very elegant, long, and precise." (01/2018)
98 points, Tim Atkin, MW: "Sourced from a mixture of white and (mostly) red soils on the Chambolle side of the Grand Cru, this shows the effortless concentration of an 80-year-old vineyard. Fermented with 100% stems, like most of the top Groffier reds in 2016, it’s silky and elegant yet with considerable underlying punch and power. One of my favourite wines of the vintage. 2026-36."
