  The 2018 La Gaffelière is once again one of the finest and most pedigreed wines in Saint-Émilion and all of Bordeaux for that matter. The high percentage of Cabernet Franc (37%) gives the wine striking aromatic nuance and complexity, as well as fabulous drive. Rose petal, sage, mint and blood orange all soar out of the glass in a stunning Saint-Émilion loaded with class and personality. Consulting winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt has turned out another gem at this revitalized property. The blend is 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Franc. (AG)

  Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 La Gaffeliere reveals classically sophisticated scents of ripe black plums, warm blackberries and cigar box with touches of star anise, dried Provence herbs, chocolate mint and truffles. Full-bodied, it has a solid backbone of ripe, rounded tannins and lovely freshness lifting the densely layered fruit to a long finish. (LPB)

  The grand vin of the estate, the 2018 Château La Gaffelière is a brilliant wine offering pure crème de cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as fabulous minerality. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and elegant on the palate, it’s not a blockbuster but shines for its purity, balance, and just gorgeous texture. It will drink well with 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.

  42% Cabernet Franc and 58% Merlot. FABULOUS wine-one of the top right bank wines we tasted. Rose petal aromas and sweet red berry fruit flavors. Pure, elegant, sweet and delicious. I could go on and on. Their new plan of only using their top vineyard for the first wine has paid off in spades. A must buy for Bordeaux collectors.

  This was the star of St. Emilion during the 2018 en primeur campaign. The addition of excellent Cabernet Franc vines shone through with aromas of roses, peppery red fruit and graphite on the nose. The texture was very elegant already with wonderful concentration of fruit and tannin on the palate, and wonderful acidity that lends to a long, fresh and balanced finish.

  This is one of my clear wines of the vintage - tasted three times, once at that chateau, all with consistent results. About half of La Gaffeliere's holdings are neighboring Ausone on the hillside right next to the town of Saint Emilion. In the past few vintages, they've dedicated more of their Grand Vin to this plot, and it shows. Good pure red fruit with a delicate floral aroma leads to an extraordinary and elegant palate that echoes the red fruit profile and ends with bright acidity and balanced tannin. There is 60% new oak here, but it is invisible. This is a take-notice vintage for La Gaffeliere
