One of my favorite direct import Sancerre producers returns with another stunning vintage, packed with that nice flinty character and incredible minerality. I've delved more into a lot of fun and easygoing white wines this summer, and as Indian summer is just around the corner, I am definitely going to have more than several bottles of the Aurore Dezat in my fridge. Need to stock up on some supple white wine? Well, here ya go. Disappointed, you will not be.

Aurore Dezat's wines continue to impress with an effortless precision and grace. The words that immediately sprang to mind were, "So fresh and so clean." Delicate orchard flowers, tangy grapefruit, candied orange peel, and subtle hints of white peach converge with lip-smacking acid, ending on refreshing, mineral-laden finish. So dangerously quaffable, you'll need to stock up on several bottles at once.

Sancerre conjures up visions of a cool glass of citrus driven wine savored while sitting at a streetside café consuming a simple fish or chicken dish. The Aurore Dezat has all that and more. It offers a touch more complexity than many of its peers, due to an unusually fine vintage. I enjoy the fact that it has a bit more body than some of its peers and a structure that is really quite impressive. Word has it that the 2018 was a favored vintage in Sancerre with conditions that benefited the wines. That attribute is clearly on display here. Bravo!

This wine is fresh to the max! Delightfully zippy, bursting with citrus, touches of wheatgrass & ending with that crisp mineral finish you expect from a great Sancerre. It's the prefect refreshment for the rest of the summer, and I think I might have just found my new post run treat.

Aurore Dezat was a happy addition to our Sancerre portfolio last year. Taking over her family vineyards in 2011 from her father and uncle, her winemaking has improved and grown dramatically as she has added more harvests to her resume. Aurore's 2017 was the wine that really turned our heads, full of energy and fruit, it drank even more impressively as we came down to the last few bottles earlier this year. The 2018 is even more striking! Planted on a mix of Terres Blanches (marl) and Caillotes (limestone rocks) the soil yields a wine that captures the essence of Sancerre with its flavors of lime, Meyer lemon and lingers with a long but crunchy vibrant finish. The 2018 vintage adds a little more weight and a slight tropical edge that is at once inviting but also promises to deliver more as it develops for a few more years in bottle. This is a great bottle for any night of the week!

The aromas on this wine are so intense. This is dripping with wet cobblestones. Texturally, the fruit is round and soft with an acid line that pierces right through the middle. Plenty of tart honey crisp apple and gentle lime notes with a touch of chalk towards the back palate. It ends with a clean finish, that slowly unfolds with echoes of the palate. This is classic Sancerre that definitely punches above the under $20 crowd.

This wine has been charming me over the last several vintages, this could be my favorite. Fortunately or unfortunately, however you want to look at it I have a very low bar for wines from this appellation. I ask for 2 things acid and minerality. If it has those two things, done. I will drink it. I will enjoy it. This is like licking citrus juice off of a piece of Marl; tangy, citrusy with a very fine dusty minerality. It is sooo good! It is so much more than a simple wine, it is elemental. It is definitely worth a case or two.
