Tasting Notes

Pablo Härri arrived in Italy from Switzerland in the early '80s and met his partner and wife Claudia Ferrero while both were working at a large winery in Montalcino. The two started a family and in 2002 built their own winery in a restored barn and stable. Their winery has a prestigious location on the southwestern slope in Montalcino, between Banfi’s Poggio alle Mura vineyard and Argiano. Pablo passed away in October of 2017. He left his wife Claudia and their three daughters, two of whom have followed his footsteps as a winemakers. Today the winery produces wine from 14 acres of vineyard: 7.5 in Montalcino and slightly more than 6 in Montenero d'Orcia. The 2016 Pepita is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano and Alicante.

    Winemaker Pepita Harri poured the warmth of her personality and inherited talent into this charming namesake Rosso, showing her innate ability to bring out the distinctive character of each variety and evoke the bright red-cherry, floral and black fruited flavors that are emblematic of this suave, impressive Tuscan. Uncorked this bottle with bubbling 'hot from the oven' baked Penne and spicy Italian sausages. Just a suggestion, as this generous red will pair with virtually anything from the boot....

    This vintage of Pepita was a huge customer favorite at our consumer tasting and it has been, deservedly, selling quickly. The 2015 is bold and concentrated with waves of black fruit, ample tannins and length. The Montepulciano really shows through and adds weight structure to this outstanding value Tuscan blend.

    This is the kind of a wine I like to have around for my Italian soirées. Light in tannis, but still with structure, lots of cherry fruit and tobacco. Very good indeed with a slice of pizza or a more elaborate Italian fare.

    Full bodied and full of charm, the Pepita swings back and forth between Bordeaux-like flavors of blackcurrants and fresh herbs and Italian flavors of dried tobacco and Maraska cherries. It is fleshy, mouthfilling and utterly delicious. I can think of nothing better to go with my Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

    This easily is the best vintage of this wine that I have tried. It is a "super" delicious everyday Tuscan red. The aromas and flavors are dark without being heavy. It is fresh without being tart. There are a fine spice element and moderate tannins. It is a really fun blend where you can sense all of the components but none of them stand out. I have a feeling that this will sell out fast.

    “SUPER TUSCAN”! & SUPER PRICE! This bad boy is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Montepulciano and Alicante and I swear you taste the layers of all these, needs a hour or so to open up and on the palate you will find flavors of black cherry and plum and soft floral notes blend with silky tannins, the cab gives this a backbone that you feel and nice smooth and long finish. TWO THUMBS UP!!!
