We can wax poetic about the magnificence of the unsung distillery hidden off the road in between Craigellachie and Keith. But this bottling is simply a value proposition. There's absolutely nothing on the market this old, this good and this cheap. Auchroisk is not a really well known distillery, but our customers have been treated to some rather lovely versions over the years. In fact, we just recently bottled a 21-year-old that we thought to be pretty dainty, but the fact that this one is three years its senior and similarly priced made it a must buy. Auchroisk is one of these '70s workhorse distilleries built in an era that when Scotch seemed unstoppable. Justerini & Brooks used this facility as a vatting facility to consolidate malts from the Highlands before sending them south for final blending. The young distillery is quite attractive visually despite being designed for modern efficiency. But the name has been a sore spot for the owners, who can't seem to keep their minds made up. They're worried the non-Scots won't be able to pronounce it and they're right. Everyone gets it wrong. But that doesn't make this whisky any less tasty. A phenomenal value is only worth it if the product delivers and this fabulous cask definitely does. Vibrant, sleek, almost sexy, this malt punches way above its weight class. The only question now is how many you can fit in the bunker?
