Deep in color and structure, this combines richness with plush power. The brooding blueberry and huckleberry fruit offers distinctive accents of bacon fat, black licorice and espresso, and this finishes with ripe, supple flavors. (JL)

Coming from a single clone (887) and 100% Syrah, the 2012 Syrah Larner Vineyard was brought up in 55% new French oak. This block was the original block Russell started working with back in 2001 and the first release goes back to 2002 (I'm not sure if there was a 2001 bottling or not). This 2012 offers a slightly exotic, olive, dried gravel and wild herbs character to go with beautiful blueberry, blackberry and scorched earth. Ripe, rounded and sexy, with a beautiful texture, it's full-bodied, has fine tannin and a big finish. (JD)

Exotic, expansive aromas of fresh boysenberry and blueberry, with complicating nuances of Indian spices, olive and flowers. Lush, seamless and broad on the palate, offering intense dark fruit liqueur and violet pastille flavors and a subtle touch of mocha. Tightens up on the long, penetrating finish, which features fine-grained tannins and lingering spiciness. (JR)
