K&L Notes

Winemaker's Notes: "An alluring combination of cumquats, peaches and yellow grapefruit melds with the more savoury aromas of almond nougat, vanilla beans and marzipan, an opulent concoction that is infused with a charry smokiness. The savouriness carries through onto a wonderfully dry, but rich and powerful palate that has great texture and concentration--evidence of this wine’s low-intervention genesis."

This Greywacke Chardonnay is bananas! SO yummy and delicious. Flinty, mineral nose of matchstick magic and a palate that is like refreshing buttercream. Mouth-watering acidity that won't let you spit (super important for us staff) and topped off with an amazing finish that just won't go away! 07/17 5:58pm

If you're looking for a nice, bright and fresh chardonnay look no further! Greywacke's 2014 chardonnay from Marlborough ticks all of those boxes and then some. Aromas of stone fruit and minerality intertwining together while herbal, lemon citrus and a balanced acid hit the palate quite nicely. It's crazy how fresh this wine tastes even after 5 years and believe anyone looking for a white other than a sauvignon blanc from New Zealand will not be disappointed with this wine.

For the most part, Marlborough Chardonnay has flown under the radar. Sauvignon Blanc has continued overshadow other varieties, making up nearly 90% of all the wine produced in Marlborough last year. Yet, there have been a handful of small producers quietly handcrafting beautiful Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from select sites along the cooler Southern Valleys. Enter Kevin Judd. The 25 year winemaking veteran from Cloudy Bay has been producing masterful Chardonnay since 2009. The 2014 is his best to date. On the nose, there is a sense of flinty minerality, with citrus blossoms and stone fruit that is full of tension and purity. The Palate is racy and elegant with elements of buttercream and lemon curd. Superbly compelling, full of power and rich fruit, the quality here is absolutely exceptional.
