The Bedouet family's history in the region dates back to the 1890s, when the estate was created by Henri Bedouet. His grandson, Michel, took possession and expanded the holdings when he assumed the reins in 1990. In 2010, he began the conversion to organic farming. The vines for the Clos des Grands Primos are planted on a mix of gneiss, mica and schist soils creating the classic flavor profile of Muscadet. Notes of grapefruit, salted apples, melon, and flint expand on the nose and crisp acidity on the palate makes for one of our best Muscadets in the store right now.

    Muscadet has become a region to watch with renewed development and many of the regions adopting new Cru appellations for some of the singular producing sub-regions. Based in Pallet (a newly elevated Cru), the Bedouet family is now on their third and fourth generation, making wines organically (since 2010) and pushing towards low intervention winemaking in their overall style. Their efforts continue to pay off as the purity of the Clos des Grands Primos is so precise and focused, it is a laser beam of stone fruit and crushed rocks. I visited the family earlier this year and we drank this beauty with a rillette of mackerel with buckweat crackers. Though mackerel is not for everyone, the brininess of the fish and the acidity of the wine matched beautifully. Ever more versatile, fish and shellfish alike are a must to try with the wine but even more land driven foods like poultry and pork will pair nicely as well. Another great payoff from one of our Direct Import producers.

    The wines from Bedouet have been incredibly satisfying. Both classic in style and exceptional in quality, the Clos Des Grand Primos delivers the crisp mineral driven wine accented with slight green apple skin, green citrus oil and aromas of fresh wet river rocks. While muscadet is often celebrated as a warm weather and seafood wine, it's a tremendous pairing for a wide range of dishes like fried chicken, korean flavors, wild mushrooms, or any combination of potatoes and garlic.

    A delicious and classic version with chiseled citrus, white fruits and a refreshing and salty finish. There is plenty of rich, round fruit in the middle before the mouth watering finish clamps down. Super palate cleansing and refreshing.

    A great bottle of Muscadet to see summer out with, this is as classic as it gets; with salinity, pom fruit and tight citrus mixed in with a myriad mineral note that sings along pleasantly. A great pairing with a cheese board or oysters.
