The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is pure class and shows the wild, mountain terroir of this appellation beautifully. Blue fruits, sage brush, wet stone-like minerality, and hints of dark chocolate all emerge from the glass, and it's rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with a backward vibe that's going to reward bottle age. 97+
The deep garnet-purple colored barrel sample of 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder features broody, earthy notes of crushed rocks and black soil over a core of black currants, black plums and mulberries plus touches of garrigue, forest floor and dried Provence herbs. The full-bodied palate is all deep and meaningful, with pensive, earthy layers supported by firm, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing on an earthy note. (LPB)
An intensely savory, mineral and tannic wine, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mt. Veeder) speaks quite eloquently to its origins. Most of the Hall Cabernets exude fruit intensity and voluptuousness. In that context, the Mt. Veeder bottling is decidedly structured and less forthcoming in the early going. It will be interesting to see where things go in the coming years. (AG)
