This iteration of Collection Privee comes from a happy vintage in Champagne where the weather was gentle and the harvest season was easy. Honey is first noticeable on the nose, then there’s a nuttiness and certain level of oxidation which reminds me of a lovely Fino Sherry. The palate has fruity notes of grapefruit and apricot along with old leather and toasted hazelnuts. Some Champagnes are destined for oysters, but when I have this in my glass I say, “Bring on the Jamon Ibirico!”

Fans of aged vintage champagne rejoice! This 2006 Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is showing beautifully for a deliciously interesting profile of lemon meringue, saffron and spice notes, lifted by minerals and acidity. It has such a great texture that only a lot of time in bottle can provide.

If there's anything I've experienced with aged Chardonnay champagne is sherry-like aromas is takes on after sitting in the bottle for the while. Nutty aromas, honeysuckle with ripe, subtle acid. On my tasting notes I wrote, "pretty balanced for an aged champagne", and that's exactly how I would describe the '06 Privee.

Bonville does it again, he has released "Collection Privee", vintage champagnes for comparison. We have 2006, 2007 and 2008 for your enjoyment. All Grand Cru fruit. 2006's nose came at me with intense sourdough yeast and ripe fruit. The 2007 has citrus zest on the nose and beaucoup acid, very racy! The 2008 had more balance on the nose and palete. Lots of green apple and ripe round mouthfeel.

This champagne is a wonderful surprise. Honey, apple, pear, vibrant acidity with a rich and long finish and a hint of Fino Sherry at the end. No, Sherry is not added but the light oxidation this champagne has experienced breeds a subtle nuttiness that is ever so pleasant and should be enjoyed by all!

2006 was warm and inviting, and the champagne from that harvest has the same character. Warm, almost flan like notes on the edge of the palette around dark fruit and light mushroom give way to a deep, savory finish that goes for days. Just so good, This juice is right in it's drinking window and is going to make people very, very happy.

2006 was a wonderful vintage for those who love softer, rounder champagne. With a warm even year all around the wines developed really robust palates. I detect notes of orange cream candy, vanilla and butterscotch with a hint of fruit peel on the end of the palate. It's not often we get houses releasing back vintage wines to share their library so this is a real treat! And it doesn't hurt that it's absolutely delicious!
