Matured for 15 months in French oak (10% new). Richly robed in luscious fruits supported by gentle tannins and a dab of oak. It is well made (of course) and is strongly Barossan in temperament. What you make of this will depend on your personal preference. *Silver*

A Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro blend, the 2015 Plexus has a pale to medium garnet-purple color and nose of kirsch, red currant jelly and raspberry preserves with hints of Chinese five spice, hoisin, roses, black pepper and underbrush. Rich, concentrated, full-bodied and full-on seductive, it fills the palate with exotically spiced red fruit preserves. With plush tannins and a balanced freshness, it has a perfumed finish with satisfying persistence. (LPB)

The nose swims with plums, raspberries, oak spice, dried floral and green-herbal notes, backed by a savory streak and herbal tonic nuances. Consistently one of the greatest values coming out of Australia, the 2015 Plexus is another triumph for master winemaker John Duval. In the grand scheme of things, $25 is not a lot to pay for a wine of this caliber. A deep infusion of black fruits, Asian spices and a light menthol note firmly put this into Barossa, but there is a tremendous lift to this wine giving a balance that elevates it above so many other wines at two to three times the price. Do yourself a favor and grab a few of these, they age beautifully and will over deliver for years to come.

This mouth coating GSM is full of blackberry and blueberry fruit. It also has just a whiff of spice and very nice dollops of anise. Very balanced! This one is not just about the fruit!

John Duval is an Australian winemaking legend. John lead the winemaking efforts behind Australia's most iconic wine, Penfolds Grange, for nearly 30 years. In 2003 he set out on his own to build a small family winery and John Duval wines was born. Incredibly crafted, the 2015 Plexus is composed of co-fermented 52% Shiraz 32% Grenache 16% Mourvedre. Brilliant and flashy, the wine is incredibly balanced, with almost neon flavors of black cherry, plum and hoisin and a hint of spice. Brilliant acidity perfectly balances the powerful fruit, making this an absolute joy to drink. Sourced from some of the best vineyards in Barossa, John has access to the best-of-the-best fruit sources available. Only a Barossa winemaking legend could produce a wine like this.

This is a beautiful Rhone blend with the power of the Barossa Valley behind it, made in pure and concentrated New World style and I absolutely love it! The nose is expressive with scents of black and blueberries, cola, black pepper and mint. The fruit is rich, concentrated and juicy on the palate, riding silky tannins to a fresh acid-driven finish. It is fun to see some of the great wines other than Shiraz coming out of this superb wine-growing region.

The Plexus GSM from John Duval is an impressive, rich wine and if you like the wines of the Barossa, I am sure you will be impressed. The combination of creamy texture and cinnamon spice made me think of horchata, but the blue fruit is all syrah!

It's well established here at K&L that I love anything John Duval has touched and his Plexus GSM is just another example of his exceptional winemaking. Elegant and complex, but still wildly accessible, this is a wine that will keep you warm til spring. Sweet, floral, African coffee notes on the nose mix on the palate with dark red and black fruits that all give way to a dusty, spiced finish. Unmistakable pedigree and a world-class bottle.
