Monica Larner writes: "Alessio Logi of Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara purchased ten additional hectares of vineyard this past year with six hectares dedicated to Vernaccia di San Gimignano and the rest to Chianti Colli Senesi red wines. The estate farms fruit from various single vineyards in the Monte Cornocchio area including L'Albereta with limestone soils mixed with small stones and fossils. It is located between 230 and 270 meters above sea level. The Campo della Pieve vineyard (350 to 380 meters in altitude) enjoys southwest exposures with thicker soils and more tufo stone. The latest parcel purchased recently is the highest yet at 400 meters above sea level. The site sees more wind and good water retention thanks to heavier clay soils."
