This has very attractive rose-petal and rosehip notes with wild herbs and a swathe of fresh red cherries. The palate carries a succulent, juicy and very fresh array of fine red cherries and a long and fresh, lacy finish with deep flavors.

The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from Les Rouges du Bas, has a far more complex bouquet compared to the Clos de Vougeot; marmalade and dried quince scents infuse the exotic red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red berry fruit on the entry, laced with orange peel and touches of tobacco. I admire the density of this Echézeaux - not the most nuanced one produced in 2017, but it has plenty of substance and aging potential. This should be interesting in 10 years’ time. (NM)

From a parcel in Les Rouges du Bas, the 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) offers up attractive aromas of smoky red fruits, spices, charcuterie and toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, firm and expansive, with a broad, open-knit profile. While the wine was quite structural when I tasted it, I suspect it will flesh out by the time it's bottled. This is often one of the sleepers chez Jadot, so I look forward to revisiting it. (WK)

An airy and attractively layered nose offers up a variety of red berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with touches of spice, violet, lilac and oak. The rich, round and suave medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouth feel even though they are not especially dense, all wrapped in a delicious and lingering finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose resurfaces...

Cask sample. Now this really smells like a grand cru! Layers of savour and interest. Lifted and minerally – not too sweet but with lots of juice. Very vibrant but with great weight. 17.5/20 points. (JR)
