Kaesler is one of the most prominent producers of old-vine Shiraz in the Barossa. They have been continuously farming since 1893, and their wines are among the most classic representations of Barossa Shiraz. Named for the horses that used to pull boulders from the vineyards, the Stonehorse Shiraz is sourced from 15- to 40-year-old vines vines planted on deep red-brown soils. The aromas here show hints of rosemary and dry herbs above a broad-shouldered display of blackberry and black cherry fruits, among smokier and savory notes. On the palate, the wine is big and rich; mouthcoating structure and softened tannins. For all its weight, underlying acidity still gives it lift and brightness. I almost never see wines of this quality at this price, this is a perfect contender for a house red that vastly over-performs.

The most common question we get here at K&L is, "What wines do you have that are a great value and drinking really nicely...?" And I would point them to the 2013 Kaesler Stonehorse Shiraz. A recent great find from our trusty Australian wine buyer Thomas, this Shiraz has some age to it--6 years!--and has aromas of blackberries, subtle hints of powdered cocoa, plums, a hint of leather. It finishes with subtle minerality, and a nice acid backbone to balance it out. What I find even more interesting is that while the nose is plush and juicy, it's not too overwhelming on the palate. Great for every day!

Kaesler has long stood as one of the top producers of Australian Shiraz amongst such names as Penfolds and Henschke. The quality of the wines for the price is unprecedented and this bottling of Stonehorse is no exception. Classic dark fruits of plum and blackberry shine and are lifted to an engagingly refreshing level by the ideal amount of acidity. Soft notes of leather and dried herbs give depth and all elements together form one beautiful wine. My new favorite Shiraz from the section.
    Top Value!

This is classic Australian Shiraz. Full body, good value, and of course, the screw-cap. Lots of fruit but not over extracted, smooth texture with a minty tannin finish. How can you go wrong for only $12.99!

This is an absolute steal! Kaesler's Stonehorse Shiraz is made from estate fruit, with vines ranging in age from 15 to 30 years. This full-bodied Shiraz has an inviting nose of blackberries, black cherries, cedar, cassis, and spice. The palate is nicely balanced with acid and soft tannins, and a long finish. A serious wine at an unbelievable price!

This great value for Shiraz is medium to full bodied and has flavors of black plum, blackberries and a savory quality that gets your mouth watering. The wine is complex, with spicy tannins that linger on the palate.

Superb everyday value for the price! Full of dark black cherry fruit with some hints of chocolate. Fresh and nicely balanced, not over-extracted or overripe.

This is one of the loveliest wine from Barossa I have tasted recently. It's fun and juicy, and it has a classic black fruit profile: mulberry, black raspberry, and black cherry burst on the palate. It's a hearty wine but not heavy, and very easy to drink. Beautiful acidity lifts up the finish and makes all flavors linger on for a while. Great wine for burgers and BBQ.

This is truly this week's deal-of-the-century and it comes in the form of a value Shiraz from Barossa. The complexity and expressive quality of this Barossa put others at thrice the price to shame! On the nose, black pepper, currants, smoke, roses, licorice and a touch of cocoa. The texture is filled out and plush with ripe tannins and the structure is completed to perfection with livening acidity. The finish is so long! I wouldn't hesitate to jump on this deal, it's going to go quick.
