Ripe, berry fruits with a touch of spice. Oak is just perceptible, adding sweetness. But the wine is firm and structured and has plenty of drive on the finish. Drinking Window 2022 - 2032 (JL)
Berry and iron aromas with just hints of oyster shell. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. A year or two will pull it together. Better after 2021.
Another charming wine from the Moulis region of the Médoc (which is the MO of the terroir), the 2016 Château Maucaillou has light red fruits (raspberries, strawberries) and floral notes to go with a medium-bodied, light, elegant, deliciously gulpable feel on the palate. It’s nicely balanced and shines for its drinkability.
Mid crimson. Smells a touch smoky/reductive on the nose but the fruit shines better on the palate. Firm, dry, compact. Very Moulis but definitely needs a lot of time. (JH)
Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Maucaillou has a savory/meaty nose with notions of smoked meats, blackcurrants and cherries. Medium-bodied, the palate is juicy with a little grip of chewy tannins. (LPB)
The 2016 Maucaillou has come together quite nicely with élevage. A whole range of savory and earthy notes give the 2016 notable character and personality to a core of sweet red cherry fruit. This bold, expressive Moulis should drink well for the next handful of years or more. (AG)
This wine, with its considerable potential, is firm, ripe and full of juicy black fruits. Structure and fruitiness are already in harmony. Drink from 2024. (RV)
