The 2018 Melon was whole-cluster pressed and aged on the lees. "We're trying to make it as crunchy, bright and fresh as possible," Lieu Dit co-founder Justin Willett says. It offers aromas of Bosc pear, green apple, baker's yeast and faint white blossoms with crushed shell, white peach and lime peel. The palate is light-bodied, tangy and lively with a cleansing finish. The 2018 Melon is a delicious, crisp dry white to drink now and over the next few years. Citrus, white flowers, mint, almond and green apple grace this dry bracing Melon from vines planted at Bien Nacido in 1973. (AG)

By: Blake Conklin10/30/2019K&L Staff MemberMelon is not the most conventional varietal to grow in California, but what was planted in the Santa Maria Valley is executed brilliantly in this bottle by Lieu Dit. The minerality of this wine is rather stunning and fantastic to pair with oysters... the winemakers obviously know that too, as on the label there is nothing but... wait for it, oysters. This bottle is another fine example that Santa Barbara wine is awesome, and I look forward to trying newer and crazier things in the area.
