Vincent Carême has assembled a 42-acre domaine in Vouvray, including several parcels of 45-year-old vines. He’s proven himself to be a masterful grower of Chenin, delivering wines like this racy, delicious 2017. This vintage has a textural beauty, combining silk and a more open, oxidative feel of cotton, while the fruit ranges from tart white currants to bruised apple. A spicy fennel-seed complexity makes the wine feel ornate. Compelling to drink now, this is worth following over the next several years.
This wine, living up to its name, is certainly dry. With tight acidity as well as a yeasty edge, it is young and full of bright white fruits. With the intense crisp texture and the mineral character of this wine, allied to the touch of spice from wood aging, it needs to age. Drink this full, fruity wine from 2021. (RV)
Bright pear, green apple and quince notes stream through, flecked with powdered ginger and backed by a fine mineral echo through the finish. Refined and focused. (JM)
