Chablis' so-called 'eighth grand cru' is actually an assemblage of 95% Vaudésir and 5% Les Preuses. Rich and powerful, it's leesy, textured and complete, showing aromatic oak with some stone fruit sweetness and racy underlying acidity. Drinking Window 2021 - 2028. (TA)
Very ripe yet poised, this has a stunning nose of Asian pears, mini bananas, lemon zest and oyster shell. The concentration and impeccable balance on the palate puts this in the same league as top Grand Crus from the Côte d’Or. Long finish with a hint of toast and vanilla from the oak aging. Better from 2020.
he domaine's emblematic wine, the 2017 Chablis Grand Cru La Moutonne, derives from a south/southeast-facing amphitheater, 95% of which is located in Vaudésir and some 5% of which is located in Les Preuses—a parcel that was once owned by the monks of Pontigny. It's showing superbly this year, wafting from the glass with a pure and reserved bouquet of citrus oil and wet stones. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and complete, with a satiny attack, excellent depth and concentration, and a long, incisive finish. Interestingly, its steely plenitude is a world away from Long-Depaquit's Vaudésir and Presues.(WK)
There is a viscosity here beyond the richness, along with saturated flavors of peach, ripe apple, lemon and mineral. Balanced, with steely acidity offset by a touch of oak that rounds out the edges. Drink now through 2024.
The 2017 Chablis La Moutonne Monopole Grand Cru is powerful and explosive in the glass, with tremendous textural resonance and richness that builds into the substantial finish. The Moutonne captures all of the signatures of the house style in its breadth and overall feel. (AG)
Here the wood treatment is a bit more obvious though it does not hide the softly exotic combination of pear, white flowers, lychee and hints of mineral reduction. There is excellent richness to the delicious, round and distinctly saline-inflected flavors that possess a generous mouth feel and very fine depth before terminating in a vibrant and powerful if somewhat drying finish where hints of citrus zest and salinity appear. This is awkward at present and not as well-balanced but there is so much underlying material that my rating offers the benefit of the doubt.
