    This might be the best vintage of Meandro that I've tasted yet, a prime example once again of the quality and value in Portuguese reds. The quintessential Duoro razzleberry flavor is ever-present, but lifted this time by perfumed aromatics and vibrant acid. A touch of oak spice and gentle tannin make this extremely versatile for pairing with food. At this price point, you don't have to feel guilty about opening it at a party, but you may want to pour yourself a few hefty glasses before you share.

    Wild mixed berries, pulverized rock dust, wildflowers, and spice. This smells and tastes like the Douro. Talk about terroir. I love this stuff! This is the perfect entry into this historic wine-growing region (except it's not fortified which means you can drink more of it, more often, at least that's what I do!) The Meandro is the first dry red from the Douro that I tried and made re re-evaluate all of my misconceptions of the style and region. This is an intensely aromatic and flavored wine but it is not overwhelming. It is medium weight on the palate with enough tannin to support the intense crushed berry fruit. It is fresh, there is not a hint of sweetness regardless of the fruit, and the acidity keeps all the flavors flowing across your palate from fruit and flowers to stones and minerals back to that pretty dark fruit. The finish is surprising for the price point and it just makes me want to go back and take another sip. A wine that makes you want to drink more of it, how can you not love that?

    With its fresh, rich raspberry/boysenberry and dried red cherry fruit, this tasty red blend from the Douro immediately demands attention. Spicy notes of pink peppercorn, clove, and oregano/sage pair up with vanilla, leather, red rose, and coffee-toffee to provide further complexity and interest. Well structured with crunchy/chewy tannins and a long finish, it's an obvious go-to with roasted meats, rustic stews, Iberian sausages, or salty cheeses. Fans of reds from the southern coast of France and the south of Italy should definitely give this hearty Portuguese bottling a try.
