Deep, brilliant violet. Intensely perfumed black and blue fruit and floral qualities on the spice-inflected nose, along with a hint of licorice. Delivers a suave blend of richness and liveliness on the palate, offering sappy cassis, cherry, blueberry and violet pastille flavors that take on a smoky aspect with air. Finishes very long and juicy, with sneaky tannins and resonating florality. The pH here is quite high – 4.1, to be exact – but the wine is decidedly not ponderous in style. The wine was raised in 60/40 combination of oak barrels and concrete tanks, with 15% of the oak new. From Beaumont-Monteux, in the southern part of the appellation. (JR)

Features a burly edge, with grippy tar, blackberry paste, roasted alder and chestnut notes rumbling through. Ends with a swath of baker's chocolate. (JM)

The velvety, full-bodied 2017 Crozes Hermitage Lieu-Dit Les Pichères comes from the commune of Beaumont-Monteux, on terraces of the Isère River. Aged 60% in barrel and the rest in concrete, it delivers concentrated cassis flavors seasoned with dried spices, both of which linger easily on the long finish. (JC)

The single vineyard 2017 Crozes-Hermitage Lieu-Dit Les Pichères was all destemmed and spent 8-10 months in barrel followed by six months in concrete tank. Its saturated purple color is followed by a concentrated, almost backward 2017 that has outstanding purity in its ripe dark fruits, smoked earth, and peppered meat aromas and flavors. 90+

Some smoky and quite flinty aromas here with pepper and aged meat, as well as blackberries and chocolate. The palate has elegance with some core power and concentrated dark berries and plums. Spiced chocolate to close. Quite bold. (NS)
