The initial hints of secondary aromas (though no sous-bois) and that truffled earth character so often found in a classic Ruchottes merge into complex, intense and still moderately structured flavors where the finish retains just a hint of greeness, which suggests like many '94s the tannins did not achieve full maturity. Still, by the standards of the vintage, this is an unqualified success and while the '94 Ruchottes will not improve further, there is no rush to drink up.
The 1994 Roumier Ruchottes is another quite impressive example of the vintage, which delivers good depth, fine complexity, and is just now beginning to show some signs of fragility in its structural elements. The bouquet is really fine, offering up notes of red berries, baked cherries, sous bois, woodsmoke, earth and mustard seed. On the palate the wine is medium-full, complex and à point, with good length and acidity, and just the faintest signs of cracks in the façade perking up on the finish. A good drink for the next few years. (Drink between 2005-2010)
