The 2015 NMR is flat out great and offers a rich, powerful style that stays light and graceful. A blend of 48% Grenache, 27% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah brought up in 50% new French oak, it offers beautiful notes of blackberries, ground herbs, and spice in a full-bodied, layered package. Coming from the G2 and Plum Orchard vineyards on the west side of Paso Robles, it’s an awesome wine that readers need to seek out! A new label (at least it’s the first time I’ve tasted the wines), these 13th & Third Wines are made by the talented Don Burns. His NMR blend is one of the finest GSM blends coming out of Paso.
Opaque ruby. Spice-accented cherry, dark berry and spicecake aromas show very good energy and pick up subtle floral and cola nuances as the wine opens up. Juicy blackberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors put on weight with air, taking on a smoky mineral quality on the back half. Finishes on an appealingly sweet note, displaying impressive tenacity and velvety tannins that fade smoothly into the sappy fruit. (JR)
