Every day, I encounter folks looking for the big-name, low-volume bottles that cause all of us whiskey fans to salivate and shake in anticipation or anguish. So often those seeking one or two particular bottles that long since sold through our tiny allocation will leave empty-handed without giving a second glance to our freshly stocked shelves. Yet bottles like this Private Select continue to deliver the quality and endless drinkability of the coveted few, only with sufficient availability that you don't feel guilty when you find your bottle empty. This thing is so soft it's almost criminal. Caramel and baked apple tussle with tons of well-integrated vanilla, forming a rich, enticing palate. There's plenty of salted nuts, ripe banana and cinammon spice on the back to keep things interesting even after multiple glasses. Anyone can enjoy it, but wheat lovesr will absolutely devour this with abandon. What strikes me is how it seems so unpretentious and wholesome. Like slipping under a cozy blanket with a fire going, this makes me feel safe, warm and nurtured. Sure, it's no Pappy, but what else is? Do we really need Pappy? I'd rather have a 6-pack of this - just wake me up when it's all gone, because I will have slept through several alarms.
