The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed and matures in 80% new oak. It has an expressive and aromatic bouquet with pretty blueberry, raspberry and iodine aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very effervescent from the start with vivid red and black fruit infused with orange zest and light fig notes. Very fine. (NM)

Firm reduction overshadows the fruit at present. More positively, there is excellent energy and density to the powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors that possess a healthy level of the same on the austere, rustic and bitter cherry-inflected finish that is a bit clipped. Like the Bonnes Mares, this is somewhat awkward and while it may harmonize, I'm less certain that this will come together though to be clear, I would not expect it to be a poor wine either.
