Elegant and splendidly complex, the inviting bouquet shows red cherry, spiced plum, olive, violet and subtle mushroom characters. The palate delivers lovely weight and flow with fabulous fruit purity, wonderfully complemented by refined mouthfeel and polished tannins. It’s stylish and harmonious with a lengthy textured finish. At its best: now to 2026. Certified organic.

Very layered and all seamlessly integrated with bright red cherries and some spice and stony notes. The palate has a smooth, lightly grainy texture. Brighter cherry flavors are underpinned by gently chalky, stony tannins. Acidity cleanses the finish and holds it in tautly focused mode. From organically grown grapes.

Fromm is a small organic and Biodynamic practicing estate in Renwick at the center of Marlborough's Wairau Valley. They have been producing wine since 1992 and strive to make hand-crafted wines that represent unique vineyard expressions. After visiting the property in 2011 we knew that these wines were special. We are delighted that we have developed such a great relationship with winemaker Hätsch Kalberer to offer these wines at fraction of their worth due to a direct winery purchase deal. In my first few months at K&L I attended a staff-training seminar on Pinot Noir, led by Jeff Garneau. We tasted a handful of Pinot Noirs from around the world at comparable price points, but it was the Fromm Pinot that stopped me in my tracks. Focused and powerful while being beautifully composed and incredibly delicious, it was the first time I remember being totally shocked at the quality of wines coming out of New Zealand. As for the other Pinots at the same price? Nothing even came close. Years later, I now have the opportunity to buy these wines for K&L, Fromm continues to be one of my favorite producers of Pinot Noir. Honestly, had I done my homework before that tasting, it wouldn’t have come as such a surprise. Ask anyone from New Zealand who Marlborough’s best Pinot Noir producer is, and they’ll tell you it’s from. For over two decades, they have been the leading producer of Pinot Noir, focusing on small vineyard sites on the sloped hillsides of Marlborough’s Southern Valleys. The 2018 Fromm Pinot Noir is a blend of their top vineyard sources. This is incredibly aromatic: cherry blossom, wild strawberry and fresh cranberry are on full display here, counter pointed by notes of black tea and herbal undertones. There’s just enough tannic grip here to give the wine substance, without overshadowing the fruit. A phenomenal value, this is head-turning Pinot Noir from New Zealand’s best.

I was very excited to see the Fromm back in stock. This is an estate that always delivers and it is foundational to my understanding of the New Zealand Pinot Noir. This wine just smells like New Zealand Pinot should. Dark red fruit with just a hint of savory herbs. It is complex and intriguing on the palate with a herbal laced macerated cherry thing that is framed with a slight hint of oak. It is long, fresh and fun.

We've been bringing in Fromm directly now for a number of years and there's the obvious reason why: they make really good juice. Big dried cherry notes mix it up with a oak spice that pumps the herbal tones overlapping the whole thing into overdrive, trailing off the fruity open into a softer, savory finish that is carried leagues by the solid tannic structure. Solid as always.

Fromm is a producer in the top of its class, and there is no better exhibit to that fact than this entry level Marlborough Pinot Noir. Their single vineyard bottlings are amazing too, but the value for price on this is just out of the ballpark. It has a beautiful bouquet of cranberries, cherries, currents and savory underbrush. The texture on the palate is both silky and luxurious but also firm and structured. The finish is pure, bright and long. You can't do much better for Pinot Noir for the price.

This is a great earthy Pinot Noir offering out of New Zealand. On the nose I get dark berries, cherry, pleasing sulfur notes, lilac, salted fruit, and a green component that likely comes from the partial whole-cluster pressing.The palate is floral with a wonderful forest floor character, gun powder, and tart cherry. Great to enjoy now, this will be a fantastic Pinot to age as well.

What an outstanding value in Pinot Noir! This wine has a beautiful dark ruby color and is extroverted and savory on the nose. The flavors are exactly what fans of New Zealand Pinot- or any Pinot- want; dark brambly fruit just kissed by barrel spice. The back end is refreshing and the oak does not get in the way of the minerality on the finish. A great direct buy!
