A superbly aged example of Corton grand cru from well-known vigneron Nicolas Potel's newest project. After selling his domaine holdings to focus on his more thriving négociant business, Potel recognized yet another opportunity to fill an unsatisfied market niche - pristine, library vintage Burgundy. The Collection Bellenum line scours the cellars of Potel's Burgundy colleagues and neighbors for well-aged wines that have remained unsold yet securely stored for decades. Potel takes hold of the stock, relabels it, and offers it as part of his own line-up. While the sources of the wines are strictly confidential, we can say without a doubt that Potel has access to many of the finest domaine cellars in the Côte d'Or, and his standards for quality have always been rigorous. So, the wine in bottle is sure to be first rate. Jasper Morris, MW has called 1985 "a candidate for vintage of the decade," as the weather was ideal and uneventful, yielding a healthy crop of gorgeous fruit. The wines are now fully mature and showing the quality of the growing season in their purity and class. This Corton-Renardes Grand Cru is representative of the vineyard characteristics in general with a wonderful concentration of red fruits underpinned by the hallmark sauvage notes for which Renardes is widely known. The structure of the vintage has held together to the present day, making for a sterling expression of mature grand cru Burgundy.
