This is a Malbec that makes you stop and pay attention. It is not often that a humbly priced Malbec will do what this wine does. With the first sniff you can tell that this is next level wine. It is arresting a mix of blackberries, cassis and other dark fruits, with that soft floral aromatic lift backed with hints of spice. The palate pops, all of that fruit on the nose jumps right out. But it is not a fruit bomb, it starts that way but the transitions into a wine with poise and presence. The tannins are fine, the oak is restrained and there is just a little spice. You can see, taste and feel the 44 years at Petrus that Jean Claude Berrouet brought with him to Tapiz. The wines from Tapiz are always very good, the very good 2017 vintage has elevated them to the next level.
