Les Perrières is situated close to the quarry in Nuits-St-Georges and often seems to have a slightly chalky note to it chez Chevillon. Aged in 30% new wood, it's one of the more structured wines in the domaine's range in 2018, exhibiting impressive depth and concentration, sweet bramble and mulberry fruit, sinewy tannins and the potential to age stylishly in bottle. Drinking Window 2024 - 2032. (TA)
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières was showing especially well, mingling aromas of cassis and dark chocolate with savory nuances of loamy soil and grilled squab in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's lively and precise, with terrific tension despite the richness and power of the vintage. (WK)
Les Perrières is situated just above les Porrets on the slope, south of Roncières, so it is closer to the epicenter of the hail in July and may have been a bit more affected as a result, but I am not certain of this. The bouquet is deep, powerfully sappy and shows enormous potential in its mix of red and black cherries, plummy fruit, bonfire, pigeon, a great base of stony minerality and new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, very pure and rock solid at the core, with a fullbodied format, plenty of sappiness, firm, chewy tannins and outstanding length and grip on the very youthful, but very promising finish. This will be a great wine in due course, but it will need a minimum of fifteen years to start to stir and will probably not really peak until it is thirty years of age! 2033-2075+.
This is aromatically quite similar to the Bousselots but where the kirsch character is even more prominent. There is even better volume and richness to the larger-scaled and intense mineral-driven flavors that exude an almost pungent salinity on the very firmly structured and youthfully austere finale. This is excellent but I wouldn't suggest buying it without an express intent to cellar it for at least the mid-term as it will require 15+ years to realize its full potential. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Perrières 1er Cru has a riper and showier bouquet compared to the Roncières, featuring dark berry fruit, crushed violets and iris flowers, hints of blood orange and dark chocolate emerging with time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins, very good depth and a more tertiary element compared to Chevillon’s other 2018s. Perhaps here the oak will need more time to be subsumed, but there is certainly very good depth on the finish. Give it three to five years in bottle. (NM)
