ZD Wines was established in 1969 by former aerospace engineers Norman DeLeuze and Gino Zepponi. They named the wine ZD, not only to signify the initials of their last names, but also as an acronym for Zero Defects, a term used at the quality control program at their former job at Aerojet. Zepponi unfortunately died in 1985, and DeLeuze and his family took full ownership. The 2018 vintage was the winery's 50th. Winery notes: "This wine is bursting with aromas of ripe pineapple, apricot and orange blossom. Subtle hints of sweet vanilla, pear, and honey add to the incredibly complex aromas. Full bodied and rich on the palate, the wine is flavored with the ripe, tropical fruit and toasted oak that integrate nicely with the balanced acidity."
