This is a high-toned and focused red with strawberry, lemon and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, vivid fruit and a long and flavorful finish.

The first of two Pinot Noirs I tasted was the 2016 Ritual Pinot Noir, a red full of character. It had a mineral palate with very tasty flavors, sour cherries and spices, and varietal character. The oak was nicely integrated oak, and the wine was fresh, with fine tannins. (LG)

Ritual Winery started off as the premium bottling from Veramonte. It was a collaborative effort of the Huneeus family (Quintessa and Faust) and Paul Hobbs. Recently purchased by Gonzalez Byass and converting over to organic viticulture, the wine delivers the richness and polish of its past and the freshness and purity of its new direction.

This is a decadent everyday Pinot Noir. The nose is rich and deep with dark cherry, red berries, very fine dark oaky spice and just a hint of earth. The wine is seamless, it glides across your palate almost like silk. The fruit earth and spice are more integrated giving the wine a level of exotic sophistication that you do not expect for the price point. This is a perfect treat that is not overly indulgent.
