Now this is a serious bottle of Cabernet. This is not a modern, soft, sweet, fruit bomb. It is powerful, complex and structured with tons of varietal character and intense volcanic rock influenced minerality at the core. The wine really shows its Stagecoach Vineyard origin, a vineyard were many of the vines are planted into almost pure rock. Aromas and flavors of redcurrant, spiced plum, leather, cedar, briary notes and crushed rock. Medium to full bodied with lovely long chain tannins and balanced acidity. This could easily be mistaken for a high-end bottle of left bank Bordeaux, it is a very classically styled expression of Cabernet with awesome stony minerals underpinning the archetypal varietal flavors. I enjoyed mine with a grilled NY strip, herb potatoes, fresh garden peas and whole grain mustard, it was magic!
