Latin for “Of the Sea,” Aequorea began in 2011 as a search for vineyards that ventured deep into the coastal "no man’s land". Here, on this foggy, windswept coast west of the Santa Lucia Mountains, they work with a group of dedicated growers who possess a shared passion for farming closer to the ocean than most anywhere else in California. Winery note: "With Viognier we aim for a style so much different than what is typically produced in California, choosing to showcase what can be done with the variety on the extremes of the coast where it struggles to ripen. Things really came together in 2019, as we had a nice long growing season, ultimately picking the Vio on October 11th with perfect chemistry. Effusively aromatic, it bursts forth with notes of lemon curd, pineapple, white peach, crushed rocks, green banana, and ginger. The palate is bright and mineral driven, showcasing notes of lemon, white flowers, granny smith apple, pomelo, with a subtle briny character. It finishes taut and crisp, framed by taught line of acidity."
