Quite reductive and earthy at first, but opens nicely to reveal dark meat, morello cherries, citrus and forest floor. Refined and elegant on the medium-bodied palate, which is dialed-in, very minerally and taut.
The 2017 Burgenland Sankt Laurent is a concentrated, warm and fruity red from up to 20-year-old vines. Although it is leathery and a bit reductive on opening, it then delivers ripe cherry and raspberry aromas as well as some earthy terroir notes to the nose. Silky, fresh and intense on the palate, with leathery notes again but good, juicy concentration, this is a promising St Laurent for lunch. (SR)
