The Rocca family has lived in the Ronchi vineyard since the 1950s. They own about a third of the
43-acre Ronchi vineyard, (along with three other producers). Vineyard age is always something people talk about, but there’s constant
replanting going on. That’s especially
so in small vineyard holdings where
there is a mix of new and old, so they
always have something to produce. The
Azienda Agricola Ronchi is aged
in a mixture of large Slavonian oak
botti and smaller barrels; this is the
new trend for many Nebbiolo
producers who have one foot in the old
world style and one in the new. The
blend gets the benefits of both. 2016 is
a stellar vintage for Barbaresco and this
wine will age for decades, but it is delightful now with a little bit of air.
