While the nose showcases primarily grain aromas, including cracked corn and peanut shell, it also has notes of white pepper, dark cherries, brown sugar, and Hershey’s chocolate syrup—a harbinger of things to come. The palate is a chocolate lover’s dream, rich and tantalizing without heaviness. There’s also mint, cinnamon, cashew butter, and well-integrated oak; time and water bring out sweet orange. It finishes with milk chocolate, toasted nuts, and lingering cinnamon. (SSB, Fall 2020)
A.H. Hirsch is a legendary name in American Whiskey commanding thousands of dollars a bottle. The legacy of that special brand lives on with this exceptional value, a redesigned bourbon both instide and out. Refreshingly transparent, the new Hirsch release - The Horizon - open displays the source, mashbills, and ages of the distillate. The Horizon combines two straight bourbons distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Each bottle features a grid on the back label with exact batch specifications. 94% of the blend is distilled from a traditional mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley aged a minimum of 4 years (5 years and 4 months to be exact for this first release). The remaining 6% is distilled from a high rye mash aged 6 years for added complexity.
