An appealingly fresh nose combines notes of toasted hazelnut, poached pear, apple compote and a pretty floral whiff. The rich and relatively full-bodied flavors brim with sappy dry extract that coats the palate on the refreshing, balanced and sneaky long finale. This is potentially excellent and a wine that should drink well both young and with 5-ish or so years of age. Lovely and worth checking out. Drink: 2023+ *Outstanding*
The 2018 Meursault Clos des Ecoles had just been sulfured when I tasted it, but the wine was still showing well—indeed, it had likely picked up some extra definition as a result—displaying aromas of pear, white flowers, citrus oil and warm bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, enveloping and fleshy palate that's fresh and lively. The 2018 Meursault Clos des École had been racked three weeks prior to my visit. It has an attractive nose of yellow fruit and a touch of albumen, quite generous in style. The palate is well balanced with tropical notes of passion fruit and guava, leading to an appealing, creamy-textured finish. Fine. (NM)
