The Mantanita de Oro Pinot Noir is a complex and intriguing bottle of wine. It beautifully captures the haunting qualities that make this fickle variety so alluring, captivating yet often so elusive. Made in a style reminiscent of Burgundy, embracing elegance, bright fruit and savory qualities; this wine is also very clearly influenced by it's coastal mountain terroir. The wine has an effortless concentration and power without being highly extracted or overly ripe (13% ABV). The finish of the wine is inflected by a saline minerality and fresh, cool-climate acidity. At first the wine is quite focused with lots of forest floor notes, dried spices, warm stones. As it sits in the glass more effusive floral notes emerge, rose petals and violets quickly followed by soft red fruits, raspberry puree, rose hip and bramble. Though this unfiltered wine is ever so slightly turbid in the glass, the purity on the palate is spectacular, with silky tannin, balanced acidity and beautiful persistence. Wow! A winery direct deal allows us offer this wine at a price, that quite frankly, belies it's world-class quality...but we're excited to get this bottle into the hands of as many customers as possible and introduce many of you to the special wines of Sam Smith.
