The 2018 les Boutonniers is another excellent example of the vintage, with a touch more reserve than the already delicious les Hautés, but the same combination of good structural tension, mineral drive and pure fruit. The nose offers up a refined combination of pear, fresh lime, chalky soil tones, a hint of fresh almond, spring flowers and a nice touch of salinity. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, complex and nicely soil-driven in personality, with a very good core, a lovely girdle of acidity and fine cut and grip on the long finish. This will want just a couple of years’ worth of bottle age to blossom.
A ripe yet still quite fresh nose freely offers up notes of mostly white orchard fruit that is cut with hints of lemon rind and a soft spice wisp. There is very good volume and richness to the lightly stony and well-detailed middle weight flavors that conclude in a focused, persistent and chiseled finish that is also shaped by refreshing citrus-tinged acidity.
The 2018 Auxey-Duresses Les Boutonniers has turned out nicely, exhibiting aromas of Anjou pear, citrus oil, toasted almonds and warm bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and nicely concentrated, it's fleshy but structured, with lively acids and a nicely integrated profile. This prime lieu-dit on the Meursault border has once again turned out a fine performance. (WK)
