Precedent was founded by Nathan Kandler who fell into a career in winemaking after a summer stint as a bartender provided the proverbial "bite" from the wine bug. The Kirschenmann Vineyard is recognized as one of Lodi’s great old-vine Zinfandel vineyards.
Planted in 1915 on its own roots, this organically farmed vineyard has fast become one of Lodi’s most prized sites under the stewardship of famed winemaker Tegan Passalaqua. The sandy silica soils and the river’s cooling
influence make this vineyard one of a kind. Nathan’s winemaking hand has everything to do with
highlighting this incredible fruit. When you think Lodi, you often think of an incredibly dense, high alcohol
Zinfandel, but here we have a highly aromatic wine (thanks to the silica soils) that is both intense
and elegant. Although the wine is stunning on its own, it’s also sophisticated enough for a steak pairing,
and would make a perfect companion to grilled meats as well.
