The 2018 Maranges Clos de la Boutière 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 80-year-old selection massale vines (the domaine being one of only two to produce bottlings from this Premier Cru). It has a well-defined bouquet that is a little more mineral-driven compared to the La Fussières. The palate is framed by fine tannins and crisp, slightly tart red cherry and wild strawberry fruit. This Clos de la Boutière is very precise and translates the terroir with style and verve. Just superb. (NM)
A brooding nose grudgingly offers up notes of dark pinot fruit that is cut with ample amounts of earth and humus. The medium-bodied flavors possess even better richness and power though at the expense of minerality and refinement, all wrapped in an attractively textured and sappy mouth coating finish. This is qualitatively equal to the Fussière but notably different. *Outstanding Top Value*
