The 2018 Bourgogne le Chapitre Blanc has a slightly oily, resinous bouquet, almost like a Condrieu (in a positive sense!) The palate is well balanced with lightly honeyed fruit and a fine bead of acidity, fresh but not complex, with a touch of peach skin toward the finish. Fine. (NM)
Sweet citrus and a touch of creamy oatmeal. A touch reductive – struck match – but Laurent Pataille says this is terroir not vinification. ‘Mother rock decomposing’, so more smoky. Tight, smoky, lightly spiced and a pure, long finish. Great tension and minerality but no lack of fresh citrus. 16.5+/20 points. (JH)
