By appearances you would not guess that this is Sangiovese. The 2016 Carla 6 exudes sheer intensity, darkness and richness. From the fruity flavors of cherry and cassis to floral and earthy notes of rosebud and damp soil, this one's got it all, plus that tertiary note of natural rubber that I love. It is beauty in a dark and deep wine. Carla 6 hits it out of the park. Some 4,910 bottles were produced at La Massa's new winery built to look like the inside of a Ferrari engine complete with rows of stainless steel tanks positioned like cylinders. (ML)
A tight and solid red with cherry and blackberry character and hints of black chocolate and wet earth. Some spices and flowers, as well. A solid and intense wine with super structure.
Another highlight in this range, the 2016 Carla 6 (100% Sangiovese) emerges from a single parcel on the estate measuring under a hectare and planted on gray schist/sand soils. Sweet red cherry, chalk, cedar, spice and dried flowers convey energy and vibrancy. The 2016 was done with manual punchdowns and aged in 500-liter barrels. (AG)
