Limpid ruby-red. Expressive red/dark berry preserve aromas are complemented by incense and floral pastille accents. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering chewy black raspberry, bitter cherry and licorice flavors and a hint of candied lavender. Smooth tannins build steadily on an impressively long, energetic finish that leaves behind repeating floral and cherry notes. (JR)
Better known for its efforts in the Northern Rhône, Ferraton has turned out what looks to be a solid 2016 Gigondas Les Murailles, full of dark fruit, cola and spice. It's creamy and supple on the mid-palate, then firms up, turning tannic and a bit warm on the finish. (JC)
