Bouchard Père's Corton-Charlemagne hails from a cool, east-facing site on yellow marls soils in Aloxe-Corton and is one of the last parcels to be picked. Fermented in 20% new wood, it's still a pretty rich Grand Cru white, with breadth, texture and a drizzle of honey, but there's also plenty of balancing acidity, sap and minerality. Appealing stuff. This is very open, across a broad palate that shows ripe apples, pineapple and light tropical fruit. Hints of cream. Full-bodied, flavorful and delicious now. Will improve with age, but why wait? Drink or hold.

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from 3.9 hectares of east-facing vines at 350m altitude. It has an attractive if not quite an exciting bouquet of beeswax and jasmine notes. The palate is livelier, demonstrating good tension. Quintessentially Corton-Charlemagne in texture, with a resinous, sappy finish that gets the saliva flowing. Drink over the next two decades. (NM)

The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is performing very well from bottle, offering up inviting aromas of pear, green pineapple, citrus oil, white flowers, lemon curd and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, it's muscular and structured, with racy acids and fine reserves of dry extract. This should age with class. (WK)

A more restrained and equally cool nose combines notes of green apple and pear with those of lemon rind and white flower. As one would reasonably expect, the mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is more robust and muscular though they too display a lovely texture to the lightly mineral-inflected, focused and markedly dry finish. This is not especially dense for a grand cru though it may well flesh out with time in bottle.
