A fabulous white, showing mango, papaya and dried-lemon character with stony and floral notes. Hints of dried orange and spice. It’s full-bodied, yet agile and beautiful on the finish. One of the best whites from South Africa and from chenin blanc! From biodynamically grown grapes.
This shows good weight on the palate, with substantial acidity cutting through, linking elements of ginger, peach, heather and lemon curd, accented by touches of verbena and hazelnut. Gains depth and complexity midpalate, where different layers meet and unravel. Finishes with a long salty detail. Best from 2022 through 2032.
The 2018 Granite Chenin Blanc has a touch more vibrancy on the nose than its 2017 counterpart due to its youth, showing bigger and glossier because of it. The medium to full-bodied palate is finessed and powerful, with mineral-driven citrus blossoms and a spicy edge over pineapple fruit. Well done!
The 2018 Granite Chenin Blanc comes from 42-year-old vines on the Paarderberg. The bouquet offers lime, orange zest and honeysuckle on the nose, plus a touch of watermelon in the background. The palate is very well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, and quite saline in the mouth. It tightens up on the finish, where I would like to see a little more terroir expression. Cellar this for three or four years.
