Made with 50% whole bunches, from one of the highest vineyards on Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, this wine has classic cherry aromas plus some richer plum fruit. It has such an elegant palate, with mulberry and spice notes, an ethereal lightness and fruit purity, but still with lingering depth and tannic structure for ageing. And the name? A movie about Napoleon was filmed on the site of the vineyard, the year before vines were planted. (JS)
The 2017 Cuvée Cinema Pinot Noir uses 50% whole-cluster fruit from one of the highest vineyards in Hemel-en-Aarde. Matured in 30% new oak, it has a generous bouquet of macerated red cherries, crushed strawberry and light blue fruit developing with aeration. The whole clusters work nicely on the palate, lending fine tension and delineation and a slight tertiary quality, leading to a finish with a touch of bitter cherry. (NM)
